German Language Center

Special report:
The German Language Center - after some little organizational difficulties in the beginning -, has now reached its cruising speed and is doing very fine. The actually ongoing session witnesses 4 teachers  (all native German speakers) teach 25 students in four courses: three beginner courses (5, 6 and 8 students each) and one for advanced students (6 students). These small classes are ideal for a fast progress in language skills and this is very much appreciated.  The course sessions are quite intensive, because in four weeks time, students have 3  lessons per week of one hour and a half each (= 2 teaching units of 45 min.). The next session will probably take place after the Eid al-Fitr holiday in the end of November.  Following the syllabus of the Goethe Institute, Cairo, the academic year is divided into three Trimesters, each with 24 teaching units (1 unit = 45 min.).
One week before the beginning of each session, registration of students takes place in the premises of the German Consulate General and the public is advised of the planned  session by an announcement in the local press. For registration, students have to bring a copy of their passport or Iqama, the full amount of the course fees (usually a little more than  1000 SR, comprising the price of the textbook) and a photo.

As a reminder, please find below the general information about the German Language Center :

The German Language Center offers German language courses for everybody from the age of 16.

The German Language Center evolved from the traditional German language courses offered by the German diplomatic missions all over the world (“Botschaftssprachkurse”).  It is sponsored by the Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany and is placed under the auspices of the Saudi German Business Group.
The German Language Center promotes the German language and acquaints the students with the German culture. The center offers a chance for high school and university graduates to continue their education in Germany.  Businessmen can obtain a basic knowledge for further training in Germany.  It is also a place for those interested in brushing up their language skills.
All courses of the German Language Center follow the syllabus of the Goethe Institute, Cairo. It offers courses leading to the elementary certificates of German as a Foreign Language (Deutsch Start1; Deutsch Start2).  Our teachers are German native speakers. They take a personal interest in your individual learning needs.  We teach German for everyday use and focus on real communication.

New KSA Ambassador in Germany : Article found on the Website of the Deutsch-Arabische Gesellschaft
(Autor: Harald Bock;   translation from German : Renate Husseini)

New KSA Ambassador in Berlin
Tuesday, 7th of September 2004

Finally !!! The waiting period is over!. After several years of vacancy Saudi Arabia is again represented by an ambassador in Berlin.  In the person of Prof. Dr. med. Ossama bin Abdul Majed Shobokshi, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has sent a renowned diplomate to Germany in aknowledgement of the excellent political and economic relations between the two countries.

On the 23rd of September2004 the new ambassador will be introduced officially to the media, the diplomatic missions, business partners and friends of his country in Berlin.

Since the departure from the German Federal Republic several years ago of  Abbas Faig Ghazzawi - he had been ambassador for 15 years first in Bonn and then in Berlin - no new ambassador had been sent by the Kingdom to Berlin.

Arab World Days  (Tage der Arabischen Welt) at the Bundestag

From 1st to 3rd December 2004, the German Bundestag is organising the "Arab World Days" in its parliamentary buildings in Berlin. This event is aimed at documenting the diversity which exists in relations between Germany and Europe on the one hand and the Arab states on the other. The objective is for the event to improve mutual understanding and lead to more tolerance and transparency in the relations.

The "Arab World Days" are intended to help build bridges between Europe and the states of the Arab world. They are intended to provide key decision-makers from the worlds of politics, business and culture with the opportunity to get to know one another. In this way, the "Arab World Days" will also be able to generate positive reactions amongst the wider public in the two cultural spheres. With these aims in mind, the "Arab World Days" are intended to focus not only on political and economic aspects, but also on cultural aspects.

Business Etiquette in Saudi Arabia and in Germany:

The Website called http://www.executiveplanet.com/
teaches you all you should know about Business Etiquette in the different countries (actually 42 countries covered) of the world. So it might be a good idea for either German or Saudi Business people to look up the other country's ways of doing business before actually begin to deal with one's partner in order to avoid being disappointed and frustrated about behaviour you do not understand.
