Visit:
National Prawn Company, Thursday, 1st of March 2007. Departure 8.00 a.m.

Important
: Due to limited onsite bus capacities (the farm extends over a huge area and we will be driven around in a bus)  the size of the group should not exceed
19 persons.
We are therefore obliged to compose the group on a first come/ first served basis.  In case of affluence official 2007 members of SGBG will be preferred.
If you are interested by this visit please register by email to sgbgjrh@gmail.com.
It takes around 2 hours to drive to Al-Lith and we plan to go there in our private cars. In addition to the visit the Company offers us a nice lunch - let's have a guess: with shrimps? - , so we expect to have a very interesting and pleasant day.

Saudi Arabia’s National Prawn Company has formally opened what’s claimed to be the world’s largest fully integrated Shrimp Farming Project which includes one of the most most advanced shrimp processing plants in the world.

Situated just south of Jeddah, the sophisticated factory has the capacity to process up tp 80t of shrimp every 24 hours. The factory has been built in the company’s shrimp farm complex that covers a total area of 100 sq Km and comprises 10 farms currently in operation covering a Water Spread Area of about 28 sq Km , while the factory itself covers a production area of about 9,000 sq metres.
The National Prawn Company is producing the species Penaeus indicus, a white shrimp. Headquartered in Jeddah on the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia, the company offers a range of frozen shrimp and shrimp products to domestic and major international markets. There are already plans for expansion which would add about 15 farms

Visit :
Archeological excavations in Tayma, Wednesday,7th - Friday, 9th of March 2007
As a natural consequence of the very interesting lecture of Prof. Dr. R. Eichmann in November 2006, SGBG plans to organise a trip to Tayma to visit the archeological site and excavations there. We will travel in our own cars, lead by our member Mr. Bernd Moeller, who has a large experience of travels in Saudi Arabia. Accomodation will be reserved in a hotel near to the ruins and payment for accomodation and meals is to be made individually by each participant. As Tayma is some 800 km distant from Jeddah, we need 3 days for this trip, which means that participants must take the Wednesday (and eventually Thursday) off from work.
Please register for this trip by email to sgbgjrh@gmail.com
and please be so kind as to indicate how many empty seats you have in your car in order for us to eventually offer a seat to ladies wishing to come along alone. The number of cars should not exceed 6, so as for the visit to the National Prawn Factory, 2007 members have priority on a first come / first served basis.

If you wish to get some in-depth information about the results of the Tayma excavation campaigns of the German Archeological  Institute, please go to http://
www.dainst.org/index_3258_en.html

Additionally Jarir Bookstores sell a little book on Tayma's history which gives you an overview on its importance in ancient times.

As most of our upcoming projects are limited regarding the number of participants, we are obliged to prefer members having paid their 2007 membership fee. Consequently, you should not hesitate any more to become a fully fledged 2007 member of SGBG.
Important :  Please note that 2006 members wishing to continue their membership in 2007 do not need to send a new application form; they simply pay their new membership fee and eventually inform us about any change in their data (new phone number, new e-mail address, new company etc.)

Miscellaneous: Found on the Internet

We continue the series of Board members' company Websites with

Hapag Lloyd
one of the top five shipping companies in the world. The Hamburg-based company is present in more than 100 countries and about 500 sales offices.
The company deploys more than 140 containerships featuring more than 460,000 TEU in capacity across five regions worldwide: North Europe, South Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia. In Saudi Arabia Hapag Lloyd is present in Jeddah (Director Mr. Gert Homeyer) and in Dammam.
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is a top supplier of premium and luxury cruises in German-speaking countries.

History of Hapag-Lloyd
Hapag-Lloyd AG came into being on September 1, 1970 as a result of the merger of the shipping lines Hamburg-Amerikanische Packetfahrt-Actien-Gesellschaft (Hamburg-America Line or Hapag), based in Hamburg, and Norddeutscher Lloyd (NDL), based in Bremen. At the time of integration, these companies, founded in 1847 and 1857 respectively, had been active in ocean shipping for more than a century.
Shortly before the First World War, the liner service networks of Hapag and Lloyd grew to span the globe. During the First and Second World Wars, both companies lost their fleets, but were able to re-build and greatly expand once again in the postwar years. With the container shipping boom of the late 1960s, the two organizations merged to form Hapag-Lloyd AG in 1970. In 1997, the company became a wholly owned subsidiary of TUI AG, a European tourism industry leader.

Hapag-Lloyd is organized on a decentralized basis with a flat hierarchy, offering customers short decision-making paths and employees attractive career opportunities in a future-oriented group.

The Website has a pleasant lay-out, displaying quite a lot of pictures and being comprehensively organized.
Under the heading "About us", we find different sections :
1. Management : Short biographies of the members of the Executive Board
2. Philosophy : An outline of the company's objectives
3. History : A quite detailed description of the history of the two original companies since their creation in the middle of the 19th century with interesting pictures
4. IT-competence:  It is a little astonishing to find this section here and not under the heading "customer services" for instance
5. Quality and Environmental : display of the ISO 9001 and 14001 certificates

Besides the usual practical information about the services, the fleet, careers etc. in the last sections of the Website we learn about the Hapag-Lloyd Foundation,
which  focuses on assisting selected projects and institutions in Hamburg with the aim of establishing long-term partnerships. It is active mainly in the art and cultural sector.

Last but not least, under the heading "Cruises" you will find everything you might wish to know about the cruises, cruise ships, itineraries etc. by Hapag-Lloyd. By the way, this section contains quite a funny feature: you can visualize the current positions of the HL cruise ships on a world map.
